The cable is actually connected and I can use it to play through other programs. So, the cable is working, but Rocksmith is not recognizing it. I see in Reddit that others are having this issue.

If note feedback is important to you then get a cable or an interface so the computer can reliably detect what you are playing - a laptop microphone will most likely not cut it and will most likely be more frustrating than it's worth. Tons of people can't use their interface with their game, like me, and it makes zero sense.
